Yesterday, I ran into the UBS looking for Elizabeth Thornton's The Marriage Trap, it the first in the series and I figured I probably should start with that, but as soon I walked in the door, what I wanted went out of my head and I picked up:
- The new Romantic Times with Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Side of the Moon on the cover. I don't read Kenyon, hopefully I'll find something good.
- Stobie Piel's Prince of Ice, I have no idea why I bought this book, I was thinking about picking up something used by her, since I've never read her, but they only had westerns and I wasn't in the mood for a western.
- Emma Holly's The Top of Her Game, I've been looking at this one for the last several visits and decided it was time to get it.
- A beautiful birthday card for my SILFH, I'm tempted to save it for my sister, her birthday is later this month, and get something else for the darling SIL.
I was about to close this post because I couldn't remember what else I wanted to say, but I sat for a minute and it's come back to me.
Dear Author has become one of my favorite review sites, even if I don't post, I read all their very clever reviews. I've noticed that authors are commenting about their reviews and I'm curious how readers/reviewers feel about this? Especially when the review is less than favorable.
I'm picking this one up from Amanda, who picked it up from Lindy on one of the RT message boards:
"I don't write romances, where there is nothing more than the man and woman getting together and then being torn apart and the rest of the book is about their getting back together. My books are too complex for romance readers.."
At first I was insulted, then I thought it was funny and then I thought it was rather sad. Amanda has a link to her website, and it doesn't seem like she's had anything published in 6 or 7 years. I have no idea if the quote is accurate, but if it is, are romance reader really perceived as this stupid?
That's all I can think about right now. I've got 10 loads of clean folded laundry to put away and they're calling to me.

Stobie Piel is one of my favorite authors but she is an acquired taste. This also reminds me that I need to order PRINCE OF ICE, which is the second book in a new "universe" by her. The first was STRANGE BREWS but since I haven't even gotten POI yet I can't tell you how stand alone it is.
As to the quote, it's hilarious. So much so that I may have to go look it up and blog about it myself. Romances not complex. Hehehe.
I've had authors comment on my blog. For the most part, I haven't had a problem with it. It becomes a problem when I feel like their comments are attacking or defensive.

I bought PRINCE OF ICE too. Something about the title grabbed me. It is not my usual thing at all. Still haven't gotten excited to read it, but I do own it.
Bev--It was on your recommendation that I decided to give Piel a try. I'll let you know what I think--no pressure there. LOL.
Alyssa--I don't have a problem with authors commenting on reviews, I've had it happen a couple of times, but I cringe when I see comments like "I'm sorry you were disappointed in..."
HelenKay--Dear Reader and Paperback Reader are my two favorite sites. It's alway nice to hear others buy new books for no apparent reason. *grin*
Ack--that should be Dear Author, not reader, though I do think there might be a Dear Reader site, I may have to check into that.
I wrote a semi-scathing review of a Lynn Michaels book and she was very gracious about it. I had another author get a bit defensive about something I had written about her book that I had given an A-. Go figure.
I don't like commenting on my own reviews, except to say thank you for the time and effort. But I'm not only a writer, I'm a reader (a voracious one, lol) and it's hard not to come into contact with one's own reviews when one reads a lot of review blogs to get some more reading material. (it's easy not to comment, really, but I usually send a thank you note to the reviewer if they send me the review by e-mail - I know how time consuming it is to review.)
I'm rather enjoying Rosemary Laurey's book, but I put it down and can't find it, so I'm getting a bit anxious. LOL. I bet it's Under the ironing pile I dumped on my chair.
