Still reading LH and the June book order

Finished Duncan's Bride and started Heart of Fire, which I haven't read in years and years, my copy is so yellowed it's distracting, but I'm loving the cranky hero.

I decided to order all my new books through my local UBS/indie bookseller. I've felt guilty shopping at WalMart and B&N when I know she could use the business. My only defense is I have to wait a little longer for the books from her as she doesn't get them until after the publisher release date, not much of a defense.

For years I ordered from them as it was convenient when I worked. I'd read RT and make a list, I learned long ago not to trust the actual star count, but the synopses are usually very good. So, yesterday while Junior was in school, I made my list...

  • Love is in the Heir -- Kathryn Caskie, I haven't loved this series, but I've really liked it, I think this may be the last, hopefully it's worth getting new.
  • She's No Princess -- Laura Lee Guhrke, one of my biggest reading fears is she is slowly being homogenized by Avon.
  • The Hazard's of Hunting a Duke -- Julia London, no idea why this one seems interesting, I've disliked just about everything she's written in the last few years, but I really hope this one moves back towards her early books.
  • Sinful Pleasures -- Mary Reed McCall, enjoyed the first book in this series, Beyond Temptation, and good medievals are few and far between.
  • In Enemy Hands -- Michelle Perry, this got a nice review over on Paperback Reader, I thought I'd give it a try.
  • Vanquised -- Hope Tarr, Wendy mentioned this back in March, and when I saw the ad (technically, I don't think it's out until July) I decided to order it.
  • Squeeze Play -- Kate Angell, what can I say, I'm a sucker for a baseball book.
  • The Turning -- Jennifer Armintrout, I really liked the synopsis, hopefully it's a good one.
  • Dark Need -- Lynn Viehl, you either love this series or hate it, technically, I wouldn't really call it romance, but an interesting romance/horror hybrid. Good vs. Evil and yet, you never know who is good and who is evil, you kind of think you know and then, well, it's interesting. And for die hard romance readers the HEAs sometimes seem somewhat vague.
  • Cover of Night -- Linda Howard, well duh, considering I'm on a LH binge.

When Good Things Happen to Bad Boys was on the list, but she already had it in stock, so I picked it up yesterday when I dropped off the order list. I've read two of the three stories, you can probably guess which one I haven't read yet, hehehe. I'm actually going to finish all three stories and write something about the whole thing later this week.

Have a good one, and happy reading.

Do you know that Waldens is having a buy 4 get 1 free sale on romances. I am trying to hold off until next week to buy romances. Am not sure if I will be strong enough.

Jane, please don't tempt me--LOL. I'm being good supporting a small local business.

Whoa, I don't think I even recognize a single author on your list. Well, except for Howard but I wasn't counting her. (G) Off to investigate.

I agree - not that I've read many of her past books - but the plot seems like it's been done over and over again, and yet this still sounds interesting enough to make me pick it up.

I just got Heart of Fire this week because of your recent Howard rave. I've read a couple of hers, one I liked, one was okay (an early Western one).

And yay for you for supporting local business--I'd do the same if my local bookstore carried any romance. But they offer a B&N alternate, so they have more esoteric offerings.

Bev, gee I thought I'd picked some fav's with Guhrke and London, guess not.

Jay, I'm relieved someone else thought it sounded good--LOL.

Megan, Hmmm, an old western, Lady of the West, lets see if I can remember... Sarrett brothers? Older one is a bully and an AH, but she hold her own, or Angel Creek, she's on her own and doing great until he thinks he can make her life better. I haven't reread these in a few years, they're definitely going on the list.

I try to support local business as much as possible.

support local business can be very expensive for me here in canada. a book will cost 10 or more now. them special paperbacks that are long and bigger in print all cost 13 dollor or more. hate that. mmm and shopping at walmart for books can make a dent in a local business . i dont see how since literally they never ever have books that i want there ever. they do get the hq books and more mainstreaam bestsellers , it very limited. i maybe have bought 3 books there ever in the last 2 years. it must be diff in the states perhaps than the canadian walmart in canada. i like my books funny and regency. i look forward to julia quinn books but my tastes can run deeper than that too but i like it all .ps i live in canada .

Oh, I forgot to mention that I thought Hazard's of Hunting a Duke wasn't anything to shout about. She is very prosy, imo. It was offered as an ebook exclusive by SimonSays a month or so ago. I did a review of it.

mamxx, I'm lucky my local bookstore will special order anything I'm looking for and offers a discount too.

Jane, ack--I've already ordered the damned thing. I'll let you know if I hate it--LOL.

Hunting was ok. Nothing grand but didn't blow hard.

Of course I read it because I wanted to see if he was cheating on her. I suck like that.

I'm still trying to decide if I'll ever finish my last Sukie Sackhouse book. I made it to chapter five and just haven't gotten around to picking it back up.
I'ùm reading Ruth Rendell right now (the Rottweiler) and it's SO good. I also have a book by Kate Rothwell I'm interested in reading. (too many books, too little time!!)

Sybil, just don't start pushing Lora Leigh--LOL.

Sam, I've never read the Sukie books, but I've heard the series is somewhat stagnant at this point, I think I'll pass in general. I've never read Ruth Rendell, but I have read Kate Rothwell, she has a nice writing voice.
