I used to say "I'd read anything." Which was never really true, but I seemed to read a wider variety of plots than I do now.
I was never a huge fan of amnesia stories, but I realized just how much I hate them when Mary Balogh did it a couple of years ago. I've blanked out the title of the book, probably on purpose.
I'm was reading Love is in the Heir by Kathryn Caskie and I'm hating the twins/mistaken identity plot. I didn't love it when Eloisa James used it earlier this year. I can't think of a book with this theme that I've liked. Maybe someone needs to refresh my memory are there any really good ones out there?
So, I put down LIITH and pick up an HQN romantic suspense, I'm not even bothering to get up and look for it. It's a stalker book, mother and child on the run from evil husband/father. I've read other stalker books, normally they don't bother me, but this one with a child isn't working.
Picky, picky, picky--now, what am I going to read?

You know what I read when I'm in a finicky mood? Anthologies. Seriously. Or series books with shorter page counts - like Silhouette Desire. Just something to get me back in the mood of reading.
Oh, and I tend to hate twin stories for the very reason you just laid out. The whole mistaken identity thing makes me wonky.
I have a thing for amnesia stories as long as it isn't obvious who the person is or where they came from. Twins that swap places? Never, because someones going to get seriously hurt and it's icky.
I'm in a paranormal mode - I have Beyond the Pale by Savannah Russe in my purse while I run around with the moving. I somehow think I'm going to have a spare moment - 5 more minutes and I'm off to the lawyer for the keys to the new house - squeeee!
So, what have you got hanging around that you think might interest you?

Wendy--anthologies and short category books aren't a bad idea, that's if I had any--LOL.
Cindy--Hmmm, what do I want to read? The JR Ward that's not out until September and the next in Lynn Viehl's Darkyn series, but that's not out until next April. I guess that means I'm in the mood for paranormal, but I'm short on those too.
Ack, I'll find something or hit the UBS tomorrow.
Cindy--Keys to the new house, how exciting, post pictures as you go along. Lots of luck with the new home.
I do the anthology/category thing, too -- when nothing appeals, they're at least short...and usually get me back in the mood for something longer, and with more meat.
I usually like twin stories, though I'm not sure if I've read any good ones. That makes absolutely no sense, I know -- but I like the idea of "it's her personality, not her looks" that draws the hero in.
Er, but the "your twin is a whore, so you must be too!" scenario is not as fun.
Hey Tara - did you hit the UBS and find something paranormal then?
I don't like amnesia stories and I just read a Mary Balogh one, not even realizing until I was well into it.
