Someone slap me...

Cheryl Holt is one of those authors I've sworn off, I've not read one of her books that hasn't bothered or annoyed me on some level. Too Tempting To Touch lives up to all of my Cheryl Holt expectations and that's not good. I can not believe I allowed myself to be swayed by a few people saying they loved this book.

  • Strike One--It's a historical that reads like a contemporary, so much so at times I found my mind wondering and questioning behavoirs and dialogue.
  • Strike Two--The heroine dislikes the hero until he touches her then she melts into a spineless jellyfish--that is until he tells her he loves her and she doesn't believe him, I guess that's a good way to extend the storyline.
  • Strike Three--A wishy washy, philandering rake of a hero with a conscience. When confronted about their relationship he too becomes a spineless jellyfish, begging the heroine to tell him what to do.
  • Strike Four--The secondary romance was more interesting than the main one.
  • Strike Five--The villains are so completely over the top, that they are laugh out loud funny, maybe it was supposed to be, but I don't think this was a comedy.
  • Strike Six--I don't care if they were faking it, or semi-faking it, the sex scenes between two sisters had a certain yuck factor going on.

With Six Strikes the book has struck out twice.

Shame on me for being too lazy to go out to the car and get Sweet Release. I wasted 2 hours of my life reading this drivel.

Don't feel bad. I keep reading Thea Devine :)

And I read one book by Holt and it was more than enough....

UH OH- I have two Cheryl Holt books in the TBR. Complete Abandon & Complete..Pleasure. They've been there for a while. What are your "Cheryl Holt expectations?"

hee I almost bought this one...

then saw it on your sidebar and thought I would hope you got rid of it

but uh really, I so don't need that book

Sounds like every other book she has done, save the sister part.

I'm so clever - I get most of my newbie author books from the public library (insert eveil grin)
But I paid full price for the hardcover edition of the Da Vinci Code, and I swear I'm waiting for a bonfire to burn that sucker. It was SO BAD I get hives just thinking about it and no way will anyone be able to drag me near the movie theater to watch it. I might barf.
Arrrggghhh! So damn expensive too.

Wendy--I read Thea Divine for years, and have several of her older books autographed--met her a few times and she is a hoot.

Amanda--Cheryl Holt expectations:

1. Hot/Cold relationship--they don't like each other until they have sex or a some variation of hot foreplay.
2. Over the top villains.
3. Bad dialogue
4. Better secondary characters the main...

Sybil--It's yours if you want it. I don't have a problem with all the different characters engaged in sex, but the sister thing was creepy.

Sam--I paid $6.81 for this book, what a waste of money.

I don't think anyone writes over-the-top, trashy soap opera plots better than Devine. I just wish she'd stay far, far away from vampires. One of her vampire books I couldn't finish, the other one left me babbling incoherently :)

This book gave me a headache! TTTT had the worst prose ever! I completely agree with your review.
CH's early books were pretty decent reads. I have a couple in my keeper shelf. This author is getting one more chance from me before I put her on my no buy list becuase her previous books flopped.

Cheryl Holt. The name doesn't even ring a bell so I haven't read anything by her. I'd wonder how I missed her but I think you have all answered that already.

Have a feeling her plots don't appeal to me. That's generally the reason I never even try some authors.
